THE RSPB
About the RSPB The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is dedicated to the protection of wild birds and the environment. The society was founded in 1889, and with a total membership of over one million (including over 150,000 junior members in the RSPB Wildlife Explorers and RSPB Phoenix), it is the largest conservation charity in Europe. the RSPB is the UK partner of the Bird life International worldwide partnership of bird and habitat organizations.
The RSPB has a national network of 173 Members' Groups and about 750 YOC school and community groups. Its main sources of income are membership subscriptions and donations. By becoming a member of the RSPB you help to protect the future of wild birds and the environment, and you receive benefits including free entry to over 120 nature reserves throughout the UK, and a copy of Birds magazine four times a year. Younger birders can join the Young Ornithologists Club and take part in the activities of their local YOC group. About the RSPB Wildlife Explorers The RSPB Wildlife Explorers, is the junior section of the RSPB for under 18s and is the world's biggest wildlife club for young people. Members aged between 7 and 12 years receive the award winning magazine Bird Life, six times a year. This is packed with activity pages, entertaining articles, special offers and prizes together with participative projects, such as 'Follow the Swallow'. Teenage members receive their own quarterly magazine, Wingbeat. In addition, Wildlife Explorers members enjoy free entry to over 120 RSPB reserves in the United Kingdom and can take part in organized activities at their local RSPB Wildlife Explorers groups.
