Site Guide

 

A guide to a  number of sites in the immediate Liverpool area, and a little further a field, a brief description is given below with more information available via the links. All the sites included here  can easily be reached by public transport (bus) from Liverpool city centre. A few can be reached with a short walk from the nearest    Merseyrail      Northern Rail Station

Billinge  The highest point in Merseyside, visit the beacon, and a stroll through woodland and farmland. Topped with a cuppa at Fir tree farm.
Childwall Woods & the Black Wood  Public parks in the south of Liverpool, woodland and meadows.
Court Hey Park A public park in Knowsley, home of The National Wildflower Centre, and Landlife. (Broadgreen or Roby Station)
Croxteth Hall Country Park ,  A large country park in the east of the city, former seat of the Earl of Sefton.
Dibbinsdale LNR & Eastham Country Park  Woodland, riverside, meadows, and a great Mersey View point, 2  walks within 2 miles of each other. (Bromborough Station)
Fazakerley Fields  In the north of Liverpool an area of woodland, grassland and recently established reed beds. (Fazakerley Station)
Huyton Lane Wetland Park  The source of the River Alt,  Huyton Lane Wetland Park is a peaceful haven for local wildlife where you sit and enjoy the birdsong.
Hale Marsh, Hale Duck Decoy & Pickering's Pasture  On the banks of the River Mersey a few of miles to the South East of Liverpool
Halewood Country Park Former railway sidings now a country park just over the city boundary in Knowsley. (Hunts Cross Station )
Liverpool Parks  Liverpool's municipal parks provide good opportunities for birdwatching across the city.  Calderstones & Sefton Parks
Northwich Community Woods, MarburyCountry Park Northwich Community Woodlands is a huge area, nearly a 1,000 acres. The area covers a variety of habitats  which provide a rich haven for a host of wildlife  such as over 220 species of birds, 19 dragonflies,30 mammals. 
Oglet Bay A readily accessible area of the middle estuary with salt marsh and mud banks. 
Pennington Flash Lakes, visitor centre,  bird-watching hides & nature trails. Leigh. 
The Coach Road & Siding Lane Nature Reserve  Mossland Walks between Kirkby and Bickerstaffe (Rainford Station)  
Tarbock Hall/Dacres Bridge  Rural walk five minutes from the city boundary.
Taylor  Park A public park in Eccleston, deciduous woodland, lakes, visitor centre. 
The Sankey Valley  A country park in St. Helens. (Garswood Station)
Wigan Flashes  Lakes, Canalside & nature trails. .
