Another successful 'Feed The Birds Day' at one of our local churches, run in conjunction with Operation Eden the partnership for the social, economic, environmental and spiritual welfare of our planet.  Lots of bird feeders were built and Chris gave an informative talk on feeding garden birds this winter. Lovely people and a great buffet.  Thanks.

'Big' Garden Birdwatch Day - Sefton Park Palm House.

27/01/07 - 28/01/07

It was a little chilly standing on the steps of the Palm House at the weekend, but this didn't put off our budding bird watchers. Two Nuthatches were the stars of the bird tables delighted to find a heap of tasty peanuts for the taking. The clowns were  quite obviously the uninvited  grey squirrels, the rest of the supporting cast were  Blackbirds, Robins, Dunnock, Blue, Great and Long tailed Tits, Magpies, Crows, Song Thrush, Redwing (winter thrush visitors from Europe) Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Goldfinch (remember the niger seed), Pied Wagtail and Sparrowhawk.

Inside it was a lot warmer and the aroma of coffee and the thought of a yummy  Danish pastry was comforting. Great fun was had by all who built fat seed feeders with our buddies, the Liverpool Rangers. Kids got colouring, sticking and dotting whilst the adults perused and sought answers at the information and seed sales stands.

Remember the park holds other treasures, not just in the Palm House grounds,  other birds  found this weekend; the much sought  Kingfisher,  pretty woodland Siskin's in the park and the fine majestic Great crested Grebe's on the lake.

Mersey Ferries Heritage & RSPB Wildlife Cruise - 22/07/07

Here's the  gang from Stockbridge Junior Rangers enjoying our  wildlife cruise, busy colouring and making masks & cards.

Another warm sunny day dawned for our second cruise of the week. As our guests sunbathed on top, our experts pointed out the landmarks of Liverpool 800yr Heritage (Happy Birthday to us -28/07/07) and our estuary birds, including Terns, Cormorant, Shag, Scoter and a Med Gull . Chris even got the kids involved with dishing out the 'chum' (remember Jaws!) and the far less stinky bread.
